The problems I encountered with my last two jersey dresses have made me avoid my sewing room like the plague. I keep finding other things to occupy me (not hard). But The Great British Sewing Bee is back, and what better way to reignite a sewing passion! Watching them made me jealous – I want to sew again. And I’m easing my way back in. No pattern drafting, no invisible zips to drive me crazy, let’s just make a top. If they made it in 2.5 hours – I hopefully can fit it into a weekend, somewhere.
I’m starting with Colette’s *free* Sorbetto pattern. There are loads of great makes out there for inspiration. I haven’t decided on a fabric yet – challenge 1 is printing out the pattern! How typical for my printer to pack in today. Is the universe trying to tell me something…?
In my search for the Sewing Bee 2014 patterns, I came across this site on the Simplicity New Look website which is pairing up the makes on the show with their patterns. I’m already loving the first three…. could this be a new challenge?
Loving the Great British Sewing Bee. What a shame there’s only one week left.
I have so many projects on the go I don’t know what’s come over me. Actually I think I do. It’s impatience. I want everything sewn, and sewn now. And now so does everyone else…. Not only do I have my own sewing wish list to complete I’m trying to fit in sewing for others too. I think I’m going to have to start being a bit selfish and say no. I have a summer wardrobe to make after all!
But I have a few days off work this week and sewing is the plan. I’ve got a blouse I’m trying desperately to finish, but the neckband is confusing me. It’s about half the size of the neck hole. I think I need to cut it out and start again, but I can’t work out where I’ve gone wrong. It’s the Vogue 7506 I posted about last week. If anyone out there has sewn it, get in touch!
I also bought some great bits at the vintage, upcycle, recycle fair – can’t wait to show you my alterations later in the week 🙂
First things first. Who watched The Great British Sewing Bee? Tuesday, BBC2, 8pm.
If you missed it watch it on catch up. I loved it. I thought all the contestants did so well with their sewing challenges. Sew a dress to fit another person? In 6 hours? I was impressed! Well done Tilly and the Buttons – I thought you did great.
Talking of fitting a dress to someone else… This is the moment I’m sure you’ve all been waiting for… Sophie’s dress actually fits Sophie. Thank goodness. And thank you to Sophie for being a wonderful model – isn’t she lovely? And I think the dress fits well. Well done us!
